When the Wild Calls...
A short term fix for the Call of the Wild
For us mere mortals who work and have other obligations, but love to enjoy nature when we can, I often substitute city hiking trails for state parks with fantastic scenery.
Such was the case today. Having experienced a typical Monday (read: stressful), I decided to go to my nearby city’s Hike & Bike Trail. Now, I live in what used to be a small town that’s rapidly growing into a North Texas look-alike—but located south of Dallas.
The day was a little warmer than we’ve had so far, but I needed the exercise and wanted to get my body ready for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend campout. Given my broken body and the fact that I’m still recovering from a recent bout of allergies and a chest cold, I only walked about 1.5 miles. Still, it did my soul good!
I’ll be packing and preparing the rest of the week to head out Friday to one of Texas’s great State Parks.
Does anyone else have camping reservations this upcoming holiday?
